Wednesday's Women's Super League fixture between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur was called off just three hours before kick off due to a reported outbreak of Covid-19 cases in the Spurs camp. Both London clubs released statements confirming a number of Tottenham players had returned positive coronavirus tests. While Covid cases continue to affect sport and has become somewhat of a norm, the legitimacy over this occasion has been questioned.Chelsea goalkeeper Zećira Mušović took to Twitter following the news to air her thoughts on the situation."Doesn’t make sense to me how a game can be postponed due to a number of Covid-19 [cases] that close to kick-off," the Swedish international wrote. "Something clearly must have went wrong here. Enough players at 12pm but not at 4pm, hmmmm…"

The tweet has sparked discussion in the comments and more than 2,000 people have liked it, including Mušović's teammates Bethany England and Emily Orman, as well as Manchester United's Hannah Blundell.

The frustration appears to be coming from the suggestion that the Spurs players did not take Covid tests until late in the day.

Judging by the club's Twitter timeline, it seemed as though the match was to go ahead as planned. Just after 10am, Tottenham tweeted their match day information and followed up by retweeting the main Spurs account showing details of both scheduled fixtures this week.

A follow up photo of defender Josie Green in training with the caption 'Ready to go' was put out after 2.30pm, as well as a retweet of Shelina Zadorsky's post encouraging fans to tune in that evening to watch Chelsea vs Spurs.

An hour after the Zadorsky retweet, Tottenham announced the positive Covid tests and confirmed the match would be postponed.

After such a long period of fixtures being rescheduled and played behind closed doors, players have of course been itching to get back into a normal routine. With fans now permitted to enter stadiums again, it can be frustrating when something gets in the way of a game going ahead.

Now, a whole two years after the UK was plunged into its first lockdown, the world is still feeling the effects of the virus and sport is by no means immune.

There is currently no confirmed date for when Chelsea vs Spurs will be played. The Blues now shift their attention to Sunday, when they will face Leicester City.

Tottenham are scheduled to take on Arsenal in the North London Derby on the same day.
