Barcelona’s men's and women’s teams have been in exceptional form of late, with both winning their respective El Clasico derbies against Real Madrid in the past week.

Xavi’s side thrashed league leaders Madrid 4-0 at the Bernabeu, while Barca’s women came from a goal down to win 3-1 against Real in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.

Though the men’s derby was a far more one-sided affair, fans have still spotted some similarities between the two matches, most notably, the near-identical goals scored by Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Alexia Putellas.

Aubameyang scored Barca’s fourth goal on the night after Ferran Torres slid the ball into his path, where the Gabon international then chipped Thibaut Courtois with effortless precision.

Similarly, with just one minute of stoppage time remaining, Patricia Guijarro threaded a ball through to Putellas, who took one touch before dinking the ball over the helpless Misa in net.

Journalist Maria Tikas spotted the resemblance between the two great finishes and posted a side-by-side comparison of the two on Twitter.

Fans pay tribute to both goals

Understandably, many were quick to laud both Aubameyang and Putellas on their goals.

Women’s football writer Rich Laverty put: “That’s remarkably spooky.”

Another wrotet: “Simple magia,” which translates as “simply magic” in English.

A third added: “Don’t say anything, just enjoy it.”

Though the two goals from Barca were remarkably similar, some also commented on the contrast in defending by the Madrid players.

“The difference? One of the girls from Real Madrid tried to do something. On the other side, they just watched him pass,” wrote one user.

Putellas continuing to shine

Putellas is the current holder of the Women’s Ballon d’Or and she once again showed why she’s the best player in the world against Real on Tuesday.

The Spanish midfielder scored twice on the night, taking her goal tally to 27 in all competitions this season.

Barcelona Women remain unbeaten this year and have now scored a whopping 136 goals in just 24 league matches.

Aubameyang has also been in splendid form since arriving at Barca in January and has scored nine goals for the club already.

With Lionel Messi now long gone, Xavi has assembled an exciting forward contingent, consisting of Aubameyang, Torres and Adama Traore, who have all worked well together.

Barcelona men face Sevilla next up in a crucial La Liga tie. Meanwhile, the women’s team face an away trip to Madrid C.W with the league title already secured.
