Gareth Bale really didn't need any extra motivation ahead of Wales vs Austria.

The Real Madrid man knew that his country were two wins away from their first World Cup since 1958.

However, he may well have been given an extra little boost by the Spanish media on Thursday afternoon ahead of the match at the Cardiff City Stadium.

That's because the Spanish newspaper, Marca, decided to write a totally unacceptable piece about the Welshman ahead of the match.

Journalist Manuel Julia Dorado dubbed Bale a 'parasite' and said his entire move to Real Madrid was a ‘misfortune’.

The column depicts Bale as a mosquito sucking the blood of Real Madrid.

It reads: “He settled in Spain, at Real Madrid, where, masked, he first showed diligence and love for the guest, but then his nature led him to suck blood without giving anything in return. Well, more than blood, he sucked, and sucks, the club’s euros.

“Unlike others of its kind, such as the flea, the louse or the bedbug, the Bale parasite does not cause itching or illnesses in its host, but after sucking, it laughs and makes fun of it, showing a jocular contempt for the one from whom he lives.

“He laughs, applauds, throws himself on the ground, sings, as a kind of humiliating ceremony, which, luckily, has an expiration date, like all misfortunes.”

A shocking way to treat a player who has helped the club win two league titles and four Champions Leagues during his eight years at the club, not to mention his 106 goals.

Gareth Bale responds to Spanish media

Bale responded in perfect fashion by scoring two brilliant goals as Wales beat Austria 2-1 to take one step closer to the World Cup later this year.

The first was a terrific free-kick to give his side the lead. The second was a fantastic finish to double their lead.

The celebrations for both were wild and passionate. Was he sending a message?

"No," Bale insisted.

"I don't need to send a message, honesty. It's a waste of my time, it's disgusting they should be ashamed of themselves. I'm not fussed."

Well said, Gareth.

Someone get that man out of Madrid because it's clear he's still a world-class talent.
