It's certainly going to be strange not seeing Italy at the 2022 World Cup.At Euro 2020, Roberto Mancini's side looked like the best international team on the planet and most believed they would cruise through their qualifying group. But Switzerland finished ahead of them and that meant Italy had to settle for a place in the play-offs, an outcome that has proven to have disastrous consequences. In their semi-final encounter against North Macedonia on home soil, the Azzurri were condemned to a shock 1-0 defeat thanks to Aleksandar Trajkovski's superb stoppage-time winner. It really was a snatch and grab win by North Macedonia. Italy had 70% of the possession and over 30 shots on goal, but just couldn't find a way past Stole Dimitrievski in goal.Mancini's side didn't perform badly on the night truth be told, although there was one moment in which Chelsea midfielder Jorginho went full Sunday League.During the second half, the former Napoli man slipped while trying to defend against Enis Bardhi in the middle of the park and then showed a turn of pace befitting of a snail in his attempt to try and stop the North Macedonia playmaker.Check out the viral footage of the incident here...
