Pete Dunne has commented on having his name changed to 'Butch' this month by WWE.

On the March 11 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Pete Dunne made his highly anticipated move to WWE's main roster.

Dunne was brought up to the main roster to team with Sheamus and Ridge Holland, but the move didn't go down well with fans.

Rather than being called Pete Dunne, fans were left disappointed when the former NXT UK Champion was renamed 'Butch' as part of his debut.

While fans may not like his new name, Butch has finally given his feelings on the matter, revealing that he's excited about what's to come.

Speaking to NXT UK star Mark Andrews on his My Love Letter to Wrestling podcast, Butch spoke about his name change and his move to the main roster.

Butch seemed to downplay the significance of his name change, stating that it's his wrestling style that has always been what fans are interested in him for:

“The thing is with me, whether it’s a name or whatever changes, that’s not what really endeared me to the audience in the first place, right? I’d like to think anyway it’s the quality of the in-ring work, and that’s what I’m going to keep the same, of course. And it’s going to get better, it’s going to improve as time goes.

Butch went to speak about how it was time for him to have a change, so he's excited to be done with NXT and now be on the main roster.

“It’s exciting. I’ve been in NXT for five years now, so time to change it up and see what we can do and push it forward with a new challenge.

"It’s exciting, but it’s also just a little bit different. I think it’s time to change it up a little bit. Five years, fresh start, and why not try something a little new.”
