Everton boss Frank Lampard will be fearful of the sack regardless of whether he manages to keep the Toffees in the Premier League, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The axing of Rafa Benitez led to the Merseyside outfit turning to Lampard as they hoped to revive their season, but they are still in serious danger of dropping into the Championship.

What's the latest news involving Lampard?

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright revealed Lampard 'expressed a clear vision on how he wants to take the club forward' during the interview process, but he has struggled to put that into action.

The former Chelsea chief has only guided the Toffees to three points clear of the relegation zone.

Ahead of travelling to face Europa League quarter-finalists West Ham United next weekend, Everton have suffered six defeats in 10 fixtures since Lampard replaced Benitez at the helm.

Although the 43-year-old penned a two-and-a-half year contract to take charge at Goodison Park, it appears Lampard could potentially head out of the exit door within the next two months.

That is because it has emerged that Everton added a break clause to Lampard’s deal, meaning they are able to part company with the former England international at the end of the season without paying a penny in compensation.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Lampard?

O'Rourke believes Lampard will be disappointed with his lack of impact since taking control of the managerial reins at Everton.

The journalist feels the Toffees could be looking at making another alteration in the dugout regardless of whether he maintains their Premier League status.

He reckons Lampard will be fearful that he could be searching for another opportunity elsewhere heading into next season.

When asked whether Everton owner Farhad Moshiri could look to exercise the break clause, O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "It will be a real worry for Frank Lampard. It hasn't worked out as he probably hoped when he took over in January from Rafa Benitez."

Have Everton's performances improved under Lampard?

A convincing 4-1 win over Brentford resulted in Lampard's tenure getting off to a promising start, but there have been more worrying displays than impressive ones since.

Following an emphatic 5-0 mauling at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher claimed the Toffees' back four is ‘Championship level’ and they have a ‘real chance’ of being relegated from the top flight for the first time since 1951.

Everton's latest setback came when they were denied a place in the FA Cup semi-finals thanks to a 4-0 loss at Crystal Palace.

Lampard was outspoken when it came to criticising his charges in his post-match press duties, with him questioning the Toffees’ mentality.
