MyGM has made a triumphant return in WWE 2K22, for the first time in the 2K version of the franchise.

The game mode has been absent for years but now you can put yourself in the shoes of the general manager of either Raw, SmackDown, NXT or NXT UK, and try to vie for dominance in the land of sports entertainment.

You’ll be drafting your rosters, setting up the matches, and deciding exactly who to push in the game mode, as you try to become the very best GM in WWE.

It’s not an easy task, as you’ll have to pick a rival, and they’ll be out to one up you at every single turn.

Fear not, though, as we at GiveMeSport have been playing plenty of WWE 2K22 and we’ve decided to put together a guide on exactly how MyGM works, walking you through the main features and, hopefully, giving you a few pointers to help you reign supreme.

WWE 2K22 MyGM guide

Before we get into it, we’re going to break down each specific section, so that you know exactly what we’re talking about.

So if you’re looking for a specific section, feel free to skip ahead, although we’d appreciate you reading the whole article!

Picking your GM

This is the first thing you’ll do in MyGM, which makes sense.

You could make your own custom superstar to be the general manager, so if you wanted to create Teddy Long, for example, you absolutely could.

We haven’t done that, so we’re instead looking at the preset options.

You can choose from Adam Pearce, Sonya Deville, William Regal, Shane McMahon, and Stephanie McMahon.

Each potential GM has a power card and it’s something to remember when you’re picking your favourite.

Stephanie, for example, has ‘The McMahon presence’, which allows you to earn twice as much money from attendance in a particular week.

Pearce has the ‘Instigator’ card, which increases all active rivalries by one level. Sonya Deville has ‘A Superstar’s GM’, which raises the morale of your roster by 15 points.

Shane has a card called ‘Coast to Coast’, which gives you a +2 show bonus when you add GM interference to the show.

William Regal, by comparison, has the ‘Legend Whisperer’ card, allowing you to sign a legend for free whenever you want.

We’d recommend picking Regal, here. Bringing in a legend could boost your show no end and they’re expensive too, so getting one for free is a huge win.

Stephanie could be useful if you’re doing a 50-week season and eventually gain access to the bigger arenas, while Pearce’s card is good if you’re hard at work crafting stories.

Shane’s card is rubbish, really, as it doesn’t give you a big enough boost.

Pick Regal, in our opinion!

Picking your show

Here's everything you need to know about WWE 2K22 GM Mode

You can choose between Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and NXT UK and, again, they all have a specific Power Card.

SmackDown has the Birth of Legends power card, Raw has This is War, NXT has Fighting Champion and NXT UK has International Takeover.

The Birth of Legends card generates +6 popularity on six random superstars on your roster; This Is War lets you prevent three randomly selected superstars from wrestling on a rival show, although it cannot be used before a pay-per-view; Fighting Champion gives you a major boost on title matches in the week it is played; International Takeover gives you a 2-3x boost on your network deal.

Our recommendation here is to pick Raw. Preventing certain superstars from wrestling could lead to injuries and fatigue, with the freshest wrestlers potentially benched. It also means that card isn’t going to be played against you.

Picking your draft

WWE 2K22 is expected to be released before the end of 2021.

You always begin with the same budget in MyGM mode.

You’ll get a budget of $2.75m and you have to draft at least eight wrestlers. Thereafter, you can keep drafting if you so wish, until you run out of cash.

When picking, you’ll be able to hit the right stick down and get a recommendation on who you should pick, so that you can get a nice mix of styles.

For example, we picked Roman Reigns first for Raw and were recommended Tyler Breeze, likely because their styles mesh well together.

Indeed, pairing a fighter with a bruiser will grant you a bonus, hence us then picking Shinsuke Nakamura.

These recommendations are helpful and worth listening to. We stopped when we had 12 wrestlers drafted, and still had just under $400,000 in the bank so we could then sign a legend, or potentially upgrade our arenas.

Don’t run out of cash, and try to get at least one of each style of wrestler for both the male and female side of your draft.

Our opponent, Shane McMahon on SmackDown, had 15 wrestlers, but the further picks were all cheap and with low popularity.

With the likes of Roman Reigns, Drew McIntyre, Bianca Belair and Bobby Lashley all on our side, we were in good shape.

Also make sure that you keep a close eye on things like stamina; you don’t want to draft a wrestler you can’t use!

Picking free agents

Brock Lesnar is likely to feature in WWE 2K22

You can go to the manage roster screen and pick up some legends or some free agents.

In the legends screen, we had the option to bring in The Rock for $111,000 for five weeks. Keep a close eye on their stamina, too, and make sure you pick a wrestler who can go up against someone you already have.

For example, signing The Undertaker would be prescient if you already had Brock Lesnar; the two have matching styles so you could put them in a feud straight away.

Free agents are cheaper and can cover injuries and absences from your roster, while you could also build up a cheap acquisition into a superstar with the right booking.

They also go well in the middle of the show; MyGM expects you to have a great match at the start of the card and at the end, so putting someone like Fandango in the midcard makes sense.

Booking the show

Rey Mysterio will feature in WWE 2K22.

The first thing to say is that you’ll need to check your journal for your Commissioner Goal.

Triple H asked us to have the most popular babyface and heel face off in a match in our first week and we’d earn a reward for doing so: A pre-match physio card that reduces the probability of injuries.

You’ll also want your show to have at least one female match, as well as a tag team match if possible, although we’d recommend saving these for bigger shows with bigger cards. On Raw, you can only book three matches.

You’ll also need to build rivalries up to Level 4 for PPV shows. Basically, have two superstars fight regularly and also call each other out in promos. You can utilise tag team matches here, too, to mix it up, so if Roman Reigns is feuding with The Rock, you can team Roman with another heel and Rock with another babyface.

Promos are also a good way to restore stamina for wrestlers who might be tired, although the best way to do that is just to not book them and give them a week off.

It isn’t that difficult to get the levels of rivalries up but make sure you’re timing it right; you want it to be a Level 4 going into a PPV.

Earning money

This is key.

You can book the best cards in the world but if you don’t have any cash, you’re going to struggle.

You’ll need money in the bank to put shows on, so don’t run out of money!

When you go into bigger venues, invest money in the crew and in pyrotechnics so you’re putting on the best show possible.

Keep your roster relatively small – 12 is the sweet spot – and make sure that you’re putting on the best matches possible in the best arenas possible. The cash will flow in.

Morale

Roman Reigns is likely to feature in WWE 2K22.

Keeping your wrestlers happy is vital.

The basic reasons for wrestlers being unhappy are as follows: They’re not being booked, you’ve tried to negotiate their contract down, GM interference cost them a match and refusing to give them bonuses.

There are certain times when wrestlers will just be unhappy; it happens, and it’s unavoidable. Part of being a good GM is dealing with it.

But do your best not to annoy your wrestlers with your booking!

And that’s it, really. MyGM may look unwieldy when you first head into the mode but it’s pretty simple once you’ve played through it a few times, as we have!
