Crystal Palace could be ‘frightening’ if they sign a new centre-forward in the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge.

The Eagles have made great strides under manager Patrick Vieira this season, especially in the final third of the pitch, but a prolific goalscorer is still lacking from their squad.

What is the latest news involving Crystal Palace?

Last season, winger Wilfried Zaha was Palace’s top scorer in the Premier League with 11 strikes as they notched up just 41 goals in their 38 top-flight fixtures.

Vieira targeted a new forward in his first transfer window at the helm as a result, bringing in Odsonne Edouard from Celtic and Jean-Philippe Mateta on an initial loan deal from Mainz.

However, Zaha has remained the capital club’s most prolific marksman despite the arrivals of the two Frenchmen.

While Edouard has registered six goals in his 23 league outings, Mateta has struck just three times in 14 games, highlighting the lack of cutting edge in the attacking positions.

And that’s despite the likes of Michael Olise and Conor Gallagher providing several opportunities for the strikers on the pitch.

What has Bridge said about Palace?

Despite Palace’s attacking frustrations, they have been far more potent in general this term, scoring 39 goals in their 29 league games to date.

Nevertheless, Bridge believes the arrival of a clinical marksman could elevate the south London outfit to even higher levels.

He told GiveMeSport: “In regards to a top centre-forward in the summer, I mean, to be honest with you, that's frightening because of what he will have around him in terms of creativity."

Who could Crystal Palace sign?

According to Italian outlet CalcioMercato, Palace are interested in snapping up RB Leipzig forward Andre Silva, although they’re expected to face fierce competition for his signature.

Another potential option is Eddie Nketiah. The 22-year-old is set to depart Arsenal on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer and has been of interest to Palace for quite some time.

The Selhurst Park side are believed to have had bids knocked back for Nketiah in both of the previous two transfer windows, and Vieira could revive his interest when the market reopens for business.
