Gareth Bale was the subject of a scathing and appalling attack by Spanish newspaper Marca on Thursday.

The Welshman was branded a 'parasite' by the Spanish outlet, who were upset that Bale was collecting his wages from Real Madrid for very little productivity.

The article prompted a strong response by Bale.

After scoring twice for Wales in their World Cup playoff on Thursday evening, he said 'they should be ashamed.'

He also posted a powerful statement on Friday where he called out Marca.

Those numbers are absolutely crazy. A total of nine players earn over £200,000-per-week.

Bale is currently Real Madrid's highest-earning player. It's unlikely he will be for much longer, though, with his contract at the club set to expire in the summer.

Hazard and Alaba are also on huge money. The former, unfortunately, has had a torrid time with injuries during his Los Blancos spell and has not performed as expected.

He is set for another spell on the sidelines as Real have confirmed he will undergo ankle surgery in the next few days.

Incredibly, Vazquez earns £105,000-per-week and is Real's 23rd highest-paid player.

Given their wage bill, it's no surprise that they are running away with the La Liga title this campaign.
