Wolverhampton Wanderers' medical team will not 'risk any setbacks' after Molineux winger Pedro Neto was forced back onto the sidelines with another injury, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Neto made his long-awaited return to action last month and has gone on to make a further four appearances, but the £31.5million-rated star has missed Wolves' last two fixtures.

What's the latest news involving Neto?

Wolves have confirmed Neto was unable to be included in head coach Bruno Lage's matchday squad for the clashes with Everton and Leeds United due to sustaining 'minor issues' unrelated to his long-term knee injury.

However, the club statement reveals the 22-year-old is not set to be out of action for a lengthy period of time as he is expected to return to full training in the coming days.

Neto's latest setback has come just a matter of weeks after the Portuguese ace committed his long-term future to Wolves by penning a new contract which is not due to expire until the summer of 2027.

That renewal appears not to have deterred suitors though, with MailOnline revealing Neto has been added to Paris Saint-Germain's list of targets ahead of the summer transfer window.

The report suggests the French giants will monitor his progress for the remainder of the season, along with that of Leeds United's Raphinha and Barcelona wide-man Ousmane Dembele.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Neto?

O'Rourke believes Wolves' medical department will not allow Lage to rush Neto back into action after sustaining a minor setback.

The journalist feels the three-cap Portugal international's recent problems will result in the West Midlands outfit's physios taking extra care when it comes to treating the winger.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "Neto has been out for such a long time. I'm sure the Wolves medical team are treading carefully with the winger right now. They won't risk any setbacks or anything like that with him."

What was Neto's initial long-term injury?

Neto was initially ruled out for six months after suffering a fractured kneecap in Wolves’ 1-0 victory over Fulham last April.

However, his expected return date was pushed back after suffering a major setback in August.

Following a prolonged recovery period, Neto was pictured beginning his individual rehabilitation at Compton Park soon after the turn of the year.

Neto's eventual return came as a huge boost to Lage, who had been unable to call upon his compatriot since being appointed as Wolves' boss last summer.
