Paul Gascoigne sparked emotional scenes at Ibrox during a Rangers legends game on Saturday. In a star-studded match in Glasgow that saw the likes of Luis Figo, Kaka and Claude Makelele taking to the field, Gascogine was able to get his moment in the sun with a three-minute cameo off the bench.Rangers had initially taken the lead through Shota Arveladze's first-half header, before strikes from Carlos Marchena, Nuno Gomes and Ricardo Quaresma saw the World XI race into a 3-1 lead.

Gascoigne's special bond with Rangers

And that set the stage for Gascoigne to make his impact with the England legend proving so popular amongst the Rangers fans that he even received huge cheers during his warm-up.

Gascoigne had put his club career back on track with a move to Rangers in the mid-1990s after three seasons with Lazio, ultimately amassing more than 100 appearances in Scotland's first city.

The affectionately-nicknamed 'Gazza' became a fans' favourite at Ibrox with 19 and 17 goals in his first and second seasons respectively, winning back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles for his efforts.

Marry that to Gascoigne's broader cult status within British football and it shouldn't come as any surprise that the 54-year-old taking to the pitch for Rangers sparked emotional scenes.

And while Gascoigne might only have been on the pitch for a matter of seconds, he made sure that his fleeting visit was a memorable one as he found the net in touching circumstances.

Gascoigne finds the net at Ibrox

The beauty of games like this are that certain things happen that you wouldn't see in standard, competitive matches and Gascoigne being allowed to find the net in front of a packed Ibrox was one such moment.

Having initially bungled a shot in the penalty area, the former Three Lions midfielder made no mistake second time around by finding the net via the post with a low finish.

As you can imagine, the reaction from the crowd was high on the decibel chart with the ensuing celebrations on the pitch showing just what scoring meant to Gascoigne. Check out the scenes below:

What a moment.

An emotional moment

No doubt many of the Rangers fans in attendance will have cheered on Gascoigne during his time at the club in the 1990s, so seeing him score one last goal at Ibrox must have been a special moment for them.

Yes, the ball was essentially passed to him and yes, the goalkeeper almost certainly just let it in, but you can't blame them for wanting to give Gascoigne his special moment back in Glasgow.

In the end, it proved to be the final goal of the game, which felt fitting on an afternoon of celebration at Ibrox that showed the joy to be found in football when we don't always take it so seriously.
