Christian Eriksen has just proved that fairy tales really can come true.

Almost 300 days since that traumatic afternoon in Copenhagen, Eriksen has continued his inspiring comeback in the beautiful game by scoring two minutes into his Denmark return.

It's been a long and difficult journey for Eriksen to return to the sport that he loves on the back of collapsing with a cardiac arrest during Denmark's 1-0 defeat to Finland.

Eriksen makes Denmark return

However, now that Eriksen has returned to club football with Brentford having been forced to leave Inter Milan due to Italian footballing laws, his dream comeback has reached new heights.

That's because the former Tottenham Hotspur star was called up to the Danish senior team for the current international break to pull on the jersey of his nation for the first time since that harrowing day in 2021.

As such, the moment that Eriksen stepped onto the pitch in a Denmark shirt during the clash with the Netherlands on Saturday night was an emotional one no matter what happened in the game.

A remarkable story

What Eriksen and the Danish national team as a whole went through last summer transcended sport in its harrowing and traumatic nature.

The scenes of Eriksen laid out on the pitch at the Parken Stadium will be engrained in everybody's minds for as long as they live.

However, it was in that distressing moment that the footballing world came together in support for a player who has since gone on to fight back in their quest to do what they love on a daily basis once more.

Therefore, it truly is nothing short of soul stirring to see a man who was fighting for his life just months ago coming full circle by playing for Denmark and weaving his footballing magic once again.

Some things are just meant to be.
