Christian Eriksen made a dream return to the international stage just 287 days after he suffered a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark during Euro 2020. The 30-year-old came on as a half-time substitute in a friendly against the Netherlands on Saturday night at the Johan Cruijff Arena and made an instant impact for his side, scoring with his first touch of the game. And it's safe to say the goal was a beauty. At 3-1 down, the Brentford striker arrived in the penalty area at the right time to get on the end of an impressive cross from Andreas Skov Olsen. Unmarked inside the box, Eriksen took full opportunity of the space in front of him and rifled the ball into the top-left corner of the net. Find out more on The Football Terrace...Yet, their efforts were to no avail, with Spurs midfielder Steven Bergwijn netting his second strike of the match soon after, restoring a two-goal cushion for the home side and ultimately giving the Dutchmen a 4-2 win.Despite the loss, it was the dream return to international duty for Eriksen, who might now also feature in Denmark's game against Serbia on Tuesday evening.

Sadly though, there was one incident after the match that tarnished the occasion for the midfielder.

During a post-match interview, it appears Eriksen was struck several times by coins thrown at him from spectators in the crowd.

While unharmed by the incident, the deplorable acts by those in the stands to throw missiles at him while he's conducting an interview is unforgivable, and hopefully, the Dutch Football Association will act to locate and punish the culprits appropriately.

Credit should go to Eriksen, though, who seems to continue with his interview despite being hit by the missiles.

Worryingly this is something that is happening all too regularly in modern football.

Diego Simeone was recently pelted by drinks after Atletico Madrid defeated Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, an Everton fan was banned earlier this week from attending football matches after he threw a Lucozade bottle at Aston Villa's Matty Cash at Goodison Park earlier this year.

But hopefully, Eriksen, who has been through a lot over the past 10 months, will not be phased by the incident and will be back scoring goals again for Denmark later next week.
