Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas has no future at Celtic Park, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The 13-cap Greece international made the switch to Glasgow in the summer of 2020 but has hardly had a look in under Ange Postecoglou following a productive first season with the club.

What's the latest news involving Barkas?

When Barkas arrived more than 18 months ago, Fraser Forster had just returned from his loan spell from Southampton and the Hoops were in desperate need of a first choice goalkeeper.

He immediately took control of the gloves, but his stint as number one didn't last long, with Scott Bain soon replacing him, while Conor Hazard also had a brief stint between the sticks.

Barkas, 6 ft 5, did make 22 appearances across all competitions, but after losing his place in October of 2020, he was never quite able to win it back.

As a result, Ange Postecoglou decided to bring in Joe Hart from Tottenham last summer and his arrival has seen Barkas' chances diminish almost entirely.

In fact, he's played just once since Hart was signed, with his only involvement since August coming in the victory at St Johnstone on Boxing Day when the former England shotstopper was unavailable.

Therefore, O'Rourke reckons that his Celtic career is in serious doubt ahead of the summer transfer window.

What did O'Rourke say about Barkas?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "He's not going to get back in the Celtic team right now with Joe Hart firmly established as number one, so I think Barkas hasn't got any chance of getting back into Celtic's plans."

Is Barkas expected to leave Celtic this summer?

Having slipped down the pecking order under Postecoglou, Barkas' days in Glasgow appear to be limited.

It's not just Hart's position that is limiting his chances, but Barkas is third choice keeper at the club right now, with Bain currently back up to the ex-Manchester City stopper.

According to reports in Greece [via the Daily Record], the goalkeeper wants a move away from Celtic Park at the end of the season following his lack of game-time under Postecoglou.

The report says that the player and Celtic are prepared to cut their losses and allow Barkas to leave the club this summer, with the keeper already counting down the days to when he can move on.
