Ben Davies' versatility will be enough to keep him part of Antonio Conte's squad at Tottenham next season, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The 70-cap Wales international is in his eighth year as a Spurs player and has been a regular starter since the Italian's arrival.

What's the latest news involving Davies?

Davies might have recently passed the 250-game mark for Tottenham, but he hasn't always been first choice in North London.

The form of Danny Rose and Sergio Reguilon have seen Davies spend much of his Spurs career as a back up left-back, although Conte's arrival and a switch to a back three has allowed the 28-year-old to become his first choice left centre-back.

As a result, Davies has started 24 of the 25 domestic games under Conte, with all but one of those coming in a back three.

Davies has spent the majority of his career at left-back, although he's also able to play as a wing-back and as a centre-back in a four.

Left-back Reguilon has been linked with a move back to Spain, while Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez have slipped down the pecking order, with the former hardly getting a look in all season.

Therefore, Bridge reckons that Conte will want to keep Davies, with his ability to play in numerous positions the reason for that.

What did Bridge say about Davies?

When asked about the Welshman's future, he told GIVEMESPORT: "Davies will be part of that squad next season because of his versatility."

Should Tottenham keep Davies?

Davies is far from the most glamorous player in Conte's squad, but there are very few as important as the Welshman.

Not only does he offer bags of experience, an understanding of the club and is an extremely reliable, most of all, very few in the squad could play the left centre-back role better than himself.

Therefore, while Conte will be hoping to bolster his defensive numbers with at least one addition this summer, Davies is not someone who should be sacrificed, even though his game-time could take a hit as a result of a new signing.

In more good news for Davies, he's expected to be fit for Tottenham's game against Newcastle on Sunday despite withdrawing from the Wales squad ahead of their game against Czech Republic tonight.
