Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi has been learning from England legend Ashley Cole and ex-Three Lions defender Joleon Lescott, says journalist Tom Barclay.

The 21-year-old recently made his international senior debut, and Barclay has put his excellent development this season partly down to the education he has received at under-21 level from Cole and Lescott.

What is the latest news involving Guehi?

Guehi won his first England senior cap over the weekend after being handed a start in the 2-1 win against Switzerland.

It was his first call-up to Gareth Southgate's squad having previously been a part of the under-21 set-up, where he worked alongside England U21 coaches Cole and Lescott.

It was well deserved, with Guehi enjoying a brilliant season at Palace after joining from Chelsea in an £18m deal last summer.

On WhoScored, he sits just outside the top five players when it comes to average match rating, recording a score of 6.77 after 28 league games.

What has Barclay said about Guehi?

Barclay has told GIVEMESPORT that Guehi is a good learner and has been taking a lot in from former England defenders Cole and Lescott.

Speaking to GMS, The Sun journalist said: "He's like a sponge. He was just learning, particularly I'm told from Ashley Cole and Joleon Lescott at under-21 level."

How far can Guehi go in the game?

He looks like he is going to the very top, with the former Chelsea man still just 21 years of age.

Guehi has already captained Palace on a couple of occasions, showing his leadership skills, and has impressed manager Patrick Vieira overall.

"We see Marc coming and going game after game, and being stronger – and being captain in the last couple of games, taking responsibility," the Palace boss told talkSPORT and other outlets after Guehi's call-up.

"He is doing really well and that call will help him to grow as a player and believe more in himself. We are really happy for what he has been doing for the football club.”

There is no doubt that Guehi has been one of the signings of the season, firmly establishing himself in the Eagles' backline. And after that first call-up to Southgate's squad, he will now be looking to cement a place in England's team.

If the Chelsea academy product can take this form into next season, then he should be on the plane to Qatar for the World Cup.
