Manchester United is looking like the ‘only potential home’ for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane should he depart the club, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Kane has just over two years remaining on his current contract with Spurs but has been linked with a move away from his boyhood club in recent weeks once again.

What is the latest news involving Kane?

Last summer, the 28-year-old attempted to force his way out of north London amid intense interest from reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.

City manager Pep Guardiola later revealed that Spurs rejected up to four bids for Kane as they refused to meet his reported £150 million price tag.

Instead, the Etihad Stadium outfit focussed their attention of snapping up Jack Grealish in a British-record deal and are now believed to be leading the race for Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland.

And according to The Athletic, United are now primed to try and prise Kane to the red half of Manchester during the summer.

The report states that super-agent Jorge Mendes has been approaching centre-forwards around Europe over the possibility of replacing Kane at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Darwin Nunez and Tammy Abraham at the top of his list.

It’s claimed that United want Kane ‘regardless of who is charge next season’ but the arrival of former Spurs tactician Mauricio Pochettino could increase their chances of pulling off this deal.

What has Jones said about Kane?

With City in for Haaland, Chelsea experiencing major off-field issues, Arsenal out of the question and Liverpool a very unlikely fit for financial and footballing reasons, United appear to be the only logical destination for Kane.

And Jones believes the Theatre of Dreams is the last remaining option for the prolific marksman should he wish to seek a new challenge, although he also reckons that Pochettino may also have a huge part to play.

He told GiveMeSport: “It does look like Manchester United will be the only potential home now for Harry Kane if he was to leave Tottenham. But still, I think it will largely be weighed by whether Pochettino is the manager.”

Do Manchester United need Kane?

United could be extremely short of attacking options next term, with Edinson Cavani set to depart as a free agent and Mason Greenwood still unavailable due to an ongoing police investigation.

On top of that, the future of Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have also been thrown into doubt following an underwhelming campaign for the talented trio.

A new first-choice striker may be at the top of United’s wish list when the market reopens then, no matter who is named as the permanent manager, and Kane could be an ideal candidate, having registered 298 goal contributions in 377 appearances for Spurs.
