Neymar to Newcastle United is a "pipe dream", according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward has been linked with a move to St James' Park, but O'Rourke doubts it is a transfer either party is considering right now.

What is the latest news involving Neymar?

According to reports from Spain, PSG are open to selling Neymar this summer and there are three clubs who are currently interested in signing him.

Eddie Howe's Newcastle are said to be one of them, while Premier League champions Manchester City and the Brazilian's former team Barcelona are the other two outfits mentioned.

Neymar is enduring a difficult period with PSG right now, recently being booed by supporters after his side were knocked out by Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The 30-year-old, who joined the Ligue 1 leaders from Barcelona for £200m, still has a contract until 2025, meaning any deal is likely to be expensive.

What has O'Rourke said about Neymar to Newcastle?

O'Rourke has described Neymar to Newcastle as a "pipe dream", believing it is too early into the Magpies' project for them to be able to sign a player of that profile.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider said: "Neymar, it's a bit of a pipe dream that one. I don't think Newcastle will be looking to do that one, or that Neymar would be considering wanting to join Newcastle. He'd wait on the project to get off the ground really [before considering it]."

Will PSG sell Neymar this summer?

Even if Neymar could be persuaded to switch the Parc des Princes for St James' Park, it is hard to imagine PSG really wanting to sell the 117-cap Brazil international despite what reports are saying.

As things stand, the French outfit are about to lose Kylian Mbappe, whose contract is up at the end of the season. To lose him and Neymar in the same transfer window would set PSG back years.

Of course, the former Barcelona man has not always done it during his time in France; some would probably argue he has not done it at all given that he is yet to deliver the club a Champions League trophy.

However, his goal and assist record is still phenomenal having been directly involved in 149 goals for the Parisians, according to Transfermarkt. That will not be easy to replace, so it would be a shock if PSG did decide to part ways with Neymar before the start of next season.
