Crystal palace defender Tayo Adaramola's development this season is another positive from Patrick Vieira's maiden campaign at Selhurst Park, according to journalist Tom Barclay.

Adaramola is still only 18, but he already looks to be a fine prospect at the south London club.

How has Adaramola fared this season?

The youngster was a regular in Palace's Under-18s last season, making 23 league appearances for the side.

This term, he has stepped things up, and established himself in the Under-23s, playing 13 league matches for them. In these games, the left-back has chipped in with a goal and an assist.

His performances have led to him receiving call-ups to the first-team squad, and he has featured twice in the FA Cup for Vieira's men on their run to the semi-finals of the competition.

What has Barclay said about Adaramola?

Palace lost Patrick van Aanholt on a free transfer last summer, and did not bring in a direct replacement.

Barclay thinks this was a deliberate move as they expected Adaramola to come through, and this has proved to be the case.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Barclay said: “I was told they weren’t going to buy another left-back when van Aanholt left in the summer. It was because Mitchell was seen as first-choice, but also Jeffrey Schlupp was viewed as being able to fill in there, which he still can.

“But maybe I’d also overlooked what they viewed with Adaramola’s pathway, which they didn’t want to block. Maybe just at that point he wasn’t quite ready, but they had big hopes for him. And maybe it’s another good sign of Vieira’s management, that he’s bringing him along where he can.”

Could Adaramola get more first-team chances next season?

Right now, Tyrick Mitchell appears to have nailed down the left-back position, and he deservedly earned his first international cap for England on Saturday against Switzerland.

There appears to be a gap between himself and Adaramola, as things stand, so the teenager may have to be patient for a while longer.

However, Vieira has shown this season that he is not afraid to give youth a chance, handing regular game time to the likes of Marc Guehi, Conor Gallagher and Michael Olise, who are all aged 22 or under.

If Adaramola can continue to improve, there is no reason why he can't gain more experience in the cup competitions and even play in the league from time to time in 2022/23.
