Things are progressing in Erik ten Hag's favour in the race for the Manchester United hot seat, claims journalist Dean Jones.

The Ajax boss is thought to be one of the frontrunners for the United job, with interim manager Ralf Rangnick moving into a consultancy role at the end of the season.

What is the latest news involving Ten Hag?

As per The Independent, Ten Hag was recently interviewed for the United job as the Red Devils' search for a new permanent manager heats up.

The 52-year-old has done a fantastic job at Ajax, winning two Eredivisie titles at the Johan Cruyff ArenA, while he also took the Dutch side to a Champions League semi-final back in the 2018/19 season.

In total, he has managed 221 games in the Eredivisie across his spells with Ajax and FC Utrecht, winning 148 of those matches to give him a win rate of 67% in the Dutch top flight.

It is hardly a surprise that Ten Hag is a contender for the United gig, though he will possibly have to see off Mauricio Pochettino if he is to end up in the Old Trafford dugout.

According to multiple outlets, including The Independent, the Paris Saint-Germain boss is also under consideration for the United job.

What has Jones said about Ten Hag to United?

As things stand, though, Ten Hag looks to be the favourite for the prestigious role once held by the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT about Ten Hag following the Dutchman's reported talks with United, Jones said: "Things have progressed quite far in his favour."

Is anyone else in contention for the United job?

Right now, it looks like it is a straight shootout between Ten Hag and Pochettino.

Spain boss and former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique had been mentioned too but, according to The Telegraph, he is no longer in the running.

Chelsea's Thomas Tuchel has also been heavily linked with the United hot seat; however, the German has made it clear that he is happy at Stamford Bridge despite all that is going on at his club right now.

"I'm still happy to be here, still happy to be manager of a strong football team and I'm happy to play the match today," Tuchel said prior to Chelsea's 3-1 win against Norwich City earlier this month (via Sky Sports).

With the likes of Enrique and Tuchel seemingly out of contention, it looks like it will be either Ten Hag or Pochettino in the Old Trafford dugout next season.
