Boxing sensation Gennady Golovkin has claimed he isn’t ‘bothered’ by the result of his first two fights against Canelo Alvarez.

Across all eras of professional boxing we’ve seen a string of iconic rivalries take place and within the current generation, Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez have already produced two incredibly memorable fights during their series.

For years there was talk of them colliding and while there’s been controversy associated with both decisions, their encounters certainly lived up to the hype.

Back in September 2017, the rivals fought to a split draw with the majority of fans and pundits believing GGG should’ve had his hand raised in victory. Then, twelve months later, an improved Canelo earned a majority decision draw - although some critics still insist that Golovkin once again deserved to get the nod.

In the present day, Canelo Alvarez is widely recognised as the best pound-for-pound boxer on the planet. With that being said, Gennady Golovkin is 3-0 since the rematch in 2018 and is reportedly set to fight his Mexican foe for the third time later this year.

In an interview with DAZN, Golovkin played down the importance of the aforementioned draw and defeat.

“I don’t feel bothered by the results in the first two fights,” said Golovkin. “I don’t experience any pressure at all. I look ahead because whatever happened, happened. I honestly can’t look at things that way.

“If I’m going to approach the third fight with Canelo, it’ll certainly be with different thoughts and not with the idea of righting any wrongs. I’m not in boxing to prove anything to anybody.

"There’s no need for me to have a particular win. I continue my career because I feel great.”

What’s next for GGG and Canelo?

Before they can even begin to think about September, both men have unfinished business elsewhere.

Canelo is heading back up in weight to challenge Dmitry Bivol for his WBA (Super) light heavyweight title on May 7. On the flip side, Golovkin is travelling over to Japan to collide with Ryōta Murata next weekend.

If all goes well, we can expect an announcement regarding the trilogy at some point during the summer.
