It’s looking like it could be a busy summer transfer window with plenty of the world’s top stars on the move to high profile clubs.

According to FIFA’s Global Transfer Report, a total of $4.86 billion was spent on recruiting footballers in 2021 and given that was post-pandemic, we can expect that figure to rise dramatically this season.

For comparison, pre-pandemic in 2019 that figure was around $6 billion.

So, who are these high-profile stars that are set to be on the move this summer? (credit: Transfermarkt)

The two names leading the line will come as no surprise. Kylian Mbappe has been publicly flirting with Real Madrid for what seems like his entire career to date.

The Frenchman is out of contract on June 30th, and it’s widely anticipated he’ll be heading to the Spanish capital upon its termination.

Speaking of termination – awful pun coming your way here – ‘The Terminator’ himself is also expected to be on the move to the blue side of Manchester.

If the Erling Haaland move was to materialise you can be sure that City fans and neutrals alike would make that one of the most hyped transfers in Premier League history. As for the rest of the English fan base, well, rest in peace.

Coming in with what would be the most shocking transfer- Marcus Rashford to Newcastle. Yes, United fans it really is a possibility.

According to Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Rashford is considering his future after a frustrating season at Old Trafford and Newcastle are currently favourites to land the Englishman.

Christopher Nkunku has been setting the world alight for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga notching 15 goals and nine assists in the league this season, unsurprisingly, Bayern Munich are swooping in with a cool €65 million bid to secure his services.

The German giants are also reportedly in for Ryan Gravenberch.

Leeds fans will be devastated to see the back of Raphina who has been a raving success for the club, but a move to Barcelona seems almost inevitable at this point, with a mere €45 million set to be the transfer fee. Franck Kessie could also be joining the ranks to bolster their central midfield options.

The Chelsea exodus fills out most of the back line with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen potentially heading to Juventus and Barcelona respectively.

Fans of the Blues will be praying that their transfer ban will be lifted in time to fill the hole their trusty gladiators will leave.

Meanwhile, Sven Botman and Andre Onana look likely to be moving to the Serie A on relatively cut-price deals.

So, there you have it, by the looks of things this summer transfer window could be one to remember.
