If Leeds United meet the release clause of Rangers winger Ryan Kent, then he ‘would seriously consider’ a move to the club, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from Ibrox in recent weeks after entering the final 15 months of his contract and could seek pastures new over the summer.

What is the latest news involving Kent?

According to Football Insider, Leeds are continuing to monitor the progress of Kent after having a long-standing interest in his services.

The report states that the departure of former manager Marcelo Bielsa has not tapered the west Yorkshire outfit’s eagerness to sign the pacey winger, meaning an imminent move could be on the cards.

Football Insider also claim that Kent’s existing deal contains a £20 million release clause, a fee that would represent a record sale for Rangers, eclipsing the £16m Everton paid for Nathan Patterson in January.

And despite his integral nature to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side, the Gers may have no choice but to sanction Kent’s sale if Leeds make a suitable offer.

The creative talent would be able to depart the Glasgow giants for free after next season if he refuses to put pen to paper on fresh terms, a scenario they will surely be desperate to avoid.

What has O’Rourke said about Kent?

Kent, who was described as a 'wizard' by teammate Leon Balogun, joined Rangers from boyhood club Liverpool on an initial season-long loan deal in July 2018 before making the move permanent a year later.

Since then, the former England Under-20 international has registered 30 goals and 44 assists in 164 appearances, playing a pivotal part as the Scottish Premiership side claimed their first top-flight title in a decade last term.

However, O’Rourke is confident that Kent would be open to moving back to his homeland ‘at this stage of his career’.

He told GiveMeSport: “If Leeds were to meet that (his release clause), I'm sure it's something that Ryan Kent would seriously consider, moving back down to England and to the Premier League at this stage of his career.”

Do Leeds need another winger?

Both Jack Harrison and Dan James have endured rather underwhelming campaigns for Leeds, providing a combined 14 goal contributions in 55 Premier League outings.

And star winger Raphinha looks destined to exit the club in the summer. According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are already in ‘advanced talks’ for the Brazil international.

Jesse Marsch may have a new attacker at the top of his wish list when the market reopens for business, therefore, and Kent could be an appealing option.
