Leeds United: Victor Orta 'big fan' of £20m Elland Road target

Leeds United director of football Victor Orta is a “big fan” of Rangers winger Ryan Kent, claims transfer insider Pete O’Rourke.

The 25-year-old is a long-term target for the Yorkshire club and is once again being linked with a move to Elland Road.

What is the latest news involving Kent?

According to Football Insider, Leeds are monitoring Kent, who is approaching the final year of his contract, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Last July, The Athletic reported that Leeds hold an interest in the Rangers wide man, so it is clear that he has been on their radar for a while now.

Kent has been a big player for the Glasgow club since initially joining on loan from Liverpool back in 2018, helping them to win the Scottish Premiership title last season.

In total, he played 52 games in all competitions in that 2020/21 campaign, showing his importance to the side.

To get him out of Ibrox this summer, Andrea Radrizzani faces having to pay £20m, with Football Insider claiming that he has a release clause set at that price.

What has O’Rourke said about Kent to Leeds?

O’Rourke believes Kent joining Leeds is a possibility, telling GIVEMESPORT that Orta and former Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa are both fans of the player.

Speaking to GMS, the football journalist said: “I think Marcelo Bielsa was a big fan of him, as is Victor Orta, so that one does seem to have some credence to it.”

Should Kent be a priority for Leeds this summer?

Jesse Marsch already has Jack Harrison and Dan James, who can both play on the left flank, so you could argue that Leeds have more pressing concerns.

Up front and midfield are probably the areas the Whites need to prioritise once the transfer window opens.

They need adequate cover for Patrick Bamford, who has been injured for most of the season, and an alternative to Kalvin Phillips.

When was Leeds founded?

The England international has had his injury problems, too, while Leeds also face the possibility of losing him, with Aston Villa reportedly sniffing around. In that event, then they would certainly have to bring in a new midfielder.

Ultimately, with Kent being a long-term target, you suspect that Leeds may act this summer and try to bring him in. But if signing him is going to take a large chunk out of their budget and prevent them from strengthening other areas of their squad that need addressing, then they should forget about it.
