Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch should begin the summer clearout of the squad he inherited by allowing Laurens de Bock, Kiko Casilla and Ian Poveda to leave Elland Road, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Marsch was appointed as the Whites' boss at the end of February, just 24 hours after Marcelo Bielsa was sacked, and the American could look to sanction various departures and arrivals when the transfer window reopens.

What's the latest news involving de Bock, Casilla and Poveda?

Leeds forked out £1.5million to sign de Bock from Club Brugge in January 2018, but the left-back has gone on to make just seven appearances for the Whites.

It appears the left-back is destined to leave Elland Road at the end of the season as his contract is just months away from expiring and he is currently on loan with Zulte Waregem.

While the Whites will not recoup a transfer fee for de Bock, they could sell goalkeeper Casilla as his £40,000-per-week agreement does not run out until the summer of 2023.

The 35-year-old has made 62 appearances during his time in Yorkshire but is on Elche's books until the end of the campaign.

Poveda, who has featured for Leeds 20 times, joined Championship side Blackburn Rovers on a season-long loan last August.

With the winger's deal still having more than two years remaining, the summer could offer Leeds the ideal opportunity to cash-in.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about the trio?

O'Rourke believes Leeds should not extend de Bock's contract and also allow Casilla and Poveda to leave the club at the end of the campaign.

The journalist feels parting ways with the trio would be beneficial for the Yorkshire giants as it could have a positive impact on the transfer kitty Marsch is handed in the summer.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "It's best for all parties to move them on and then they can get on with their careers.

"If Leeds can bring in a bit of money and generate some funds, they can use it elsewhere in the transfer market to strengthen the squad and see what else they need to improve on."

Would seeing any of the trio depart come as a blow?

De Bock has not featured in Leeds' plans for some time, with his last appearance coming more than four years ago, so it's doubtful that a direct replacement will be needed for him.

Marsch already has two goalkeepers at his disposal, in the form of Illan Meslier and Kristoffer Klaesson, so seeing Casilla depart would not come as a blow.

At the age of 22, Poveda potentially has a bright future ahead of him. But the right-wing slot has been nailed down by Raphinha since his £17million switch from Rennes, so it could be difficult for Poveda to ever enjoy an extended run in his favoured position.
