Among Us was and still is a hit online with gamers and streamers, with them still finding new ways to make the whodunnit game wacky and fun.
But it looks like an iconic yet familiar face may be joining the crewmate (or impostor) roster! Namely, Halo’s protagonist Master Chief.
Among Us was a staple game of 2018 as it gave a breath of fresh air into the indie game market. The title gripped gamers with the classic murder mystery with a sci-fi element.
Fans were dying for a sequel to be released, however, that’s not how things turned out. Innersloth scrapped the plans for a sequel to the hit and instead decided to continue developing and updating Among Us.
Halo x Among Us
Whilst some players took the news bitterly, it may have just been a blessing in disguise as brand new content has just been teased. And this is no ordinary content tease, it’s a crossover with one of the biggest franchises in gaming history: Halo.
In a new tweet from the official Halo Twitter account, a video can be played showing a familiar Spartan getting up to suspicious antics. Whilst the tweet itself isn’t anything too revealing, it already has fans of both series’ crying for more.
This teaser was then followed up by Halo on Friday 1st April 2022, and they fully confirmed this crossover. Halo revealed that Xbox players can unlock exclusive Halo cosmetics in Among Us from Friday 1st April 2022.
With the roaring success that was the release of Halo Infinite back in 2021, the game has continued to gain traction with free multiplayer events throughout its lifespan as well as a free to play multiplayer mode.
Among Us is a free or very inexpensive game, meaning that its money comes from things such as cosmetics and skins.
Now could Master Chief be a skin that we will need to pay for or will he be free as a crossover to the hit title? Well, we’re not sure.
Both Halo and Innersloth have been near enough silent on the crossover after the initial teaser, with nothing more being said about it on any social media. However, it’s also possible that this could be a tie-in to the new Halo TV show on Paramount+.
Whilst Innersloth can’t hope to compete in the cosmetic skins game with other titles like Call of Duty or Fortnite, these new skins are a welcome touch. Little updates like this help keep an indie game fresh and with the popularity of Among Us back on the rise, the timing seems perfect.
