Tottenham Hotspur will not be the only side that super-agent Jorge Mendes is ‘talking to’ ahead of the summer transfer window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Recent reports have suggested that the Portuguese super-agent is working on behalf of the capital club as manager Antonio Conte looks to bolster his attacking options.

What is the latest news involving Mendes?

According to The Athletic, Mendes has been approaching strikers across the continent regarding the possibility of joining Tottenham when the market reopens for business.

It’s claimed that efforts are being made to line up Harry Kane’s potential successor should the highly influential forward attempt to force his way out of north London once again.

The report states that Mendes has ‘held talks’ over Benfica’s Darwin Nunez and AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham as both youngsters have enjoyed a stellar 2021/22 campaign to date.

For large parts of last summer, it seemed as though Kane was destined to join reigning Premier League champions Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola even revealing they had up to four bids rejected.

However, it’s the Cityzens’ local rivals Manchester United who now appear to be in pole position for the England international’s signature, and the possible appointment of Mauricio Pochettino could play a big part in Kane’s thinking.

What has O’Rourke said about Mendes?

Mendes is one of the most prominent figures in elite-level football and has a host of star names on his books, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Angel Di Maria and Bernardo Silva.

And O’Rourke is ‘sure’ that the ‘influential’ agent is in conversation with several clubs already regarding potential transfers, not just Spurs.

He told GiveMeSport: “Jorge Mendes is so influential these days, so I'm sure he is talking to Tottenham on all sorts of transfers as well as talking to other clubs.”

Who could Tottenham sign?

According to Football Insider, Spurs have ‘set their sights’ on signing Southampton full-back Tino Livramento and have already made preliminary moves for the 19-year-old.

The capital club attempted to bring in Adama Traore from Wolves to solve their right wing-back woes in January before he joined Barcelona on loan, and it seems as though they have now switched their focus.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph state that Alessandro Bastoni of Inter, Lille’s Sven Botman and RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol make up a three-player shortlist of centre-back’s Spurs are targeting.

It seems as though sorting out the defence is the priority for Conte ahead of next season, but Kane’s exit could significantly alter those plans.
