Leeds United are ‘more likely’ to sign Red Bull Salzburg attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson than Rangers winger Ryan Kent, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Whites have been heavily linked to both players in recent months and could revive their interest in the duo during the summer transfer window.

What is the latest news involving Leeds?

According to The Athletic, Leeds saw a £15 million bid rejected for Aaronson as they attempted to bolster their attacking options at the halfway point of the season.

Sky Sports then claimed that the Whites increased their offer to £20m for the USA international, although that offer still fell someway short of his reported £30m price tag, meaning he stayed put at the Red Bull Arena.

And the arrival of Jesse Marsch as Marcelo Bielsa’s replacement in the Elland Road dugout could work in Leeds’ favour as the pair enjoyed some success together at Salzburg.

Another potential target for the west Yorkshire outfit is Kent. Football Insider claim that there has been a long-standing interest in the 25-year-old dating back to Bielsa’s time at the club.

The report states that the flying winger has a £20 million release clause inserted into his contract, and with only 15 months remaining on his existing deal, an imminent move could be on the cards.

What has Jones said about Leeds?

Aaronson played 25 times under Marsch, scoring seven goals and providing five assists as they completed a domestic double last term.

And Jones has revealed that the 21-year-old remains high up in Leeds’ summer transfer plans following the change in management, whereas doubts have been raised over Kent.

He told GiveMeSport: “Brenden Aaronson is (still high up in Leeds’ summer plans), so I think that one is still more likely.”

Do Leeds need attacking reinforcements?

Last season, Leeds took the Premier League by storm, entertaining the fans with their free-flowing attacking style and finishing in a highly-impressive ninth place.

Their tally of 62 top-flight goals bettered the total of European champions Chelsea, but things have not gone to plan this time around.

No player has reached double figures in the league, and Leeds’ record of 34 goals from their 30 league games to date highlights the drop-off in productivity in the final third of the pitch.

With star forward Raphinha also heavily linked with Catalan giants Barcelona, Marsch may be forced to bring in several reinforcements ahead of next term.
