Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is unlikely to become involved in a ‘financial tussle’ for Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The highly-rated 22-year-old is set to depart his boyhood club in the summer as a free agent after being unable to agree terms on a new contract at the Stade Vélodrome.

What is the latest news involving Kamara?

Marseille president Pablo Longoria has previously confirmed that Kamara will not sign a new deal with the French giants after reportedly demanding a huge increase on his current £46,000-per-week wages.

“To lose a player at the end of the contract, especially one of your best and one with one of the best (transfer) values in the squad, is always a failure,” said Longoria.

And Kamara’s situation has reportedly sparked the interest of a host of top clubs across the continent, who are eager to secure themselves a bargain.

According to Goal, reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid are now ‘leading the race’ to sign the former France Under-21 international ahead of several European heavyweights.

The report states that Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Tottenham have all been credited with an interest alongside Southampton.

Meanwhile, The Sun state that Premier League trio Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and West Ham have also joined the race for Kamara’s signature, potentially sparking a bidding war.

What has Jones said about Tottenham?

Although there will be no transfer fee involved in any deal for Kamara, the agent fee, signing on bonus and wage demands are likely to make it a costly affair, and Jones believes the extensive competition could put Levy off making a move.

He told GiveMeSport: “This guy is being linked with almost every club in Europe at the moment. So, it's going to probably come down to a financial tussle.

“And ultimately, Daniel Levy doesn't usually like to get involved in that because you end up paying over the odds.”

Would Kamara be a good signing?

Kamara has established himself as one of the most promising young talents in Ligue 1 since making his first-team debut in 2016, racking up over 150 appearances for Marseille.

The versatile star has turned out at centre-back and in a defensive midfield role on a regular basis, and his underlying numbers from the current campaign highlight his continued development.

As per WhoScored, Kamara has won 1.1 aerial duels while averaging two tackles and 1.2 interceptions per league game throughout 2021/22, placing him in the top three for each metric compared to his teammates.

Therefore, Kamara could prove to be a valuable addition to Antonio Conte’s squad if the Spurs hierarchy manage to pull off an unlikely signing.
