Footage has emerged of Kylian Mbappe congratulating the PSG women’s team after they made it through to the semi-finals of the Women’s Champions League. Ramona Bachmann scored in extra-time as the Parisians drew 2-2 with Bayern Munich at the Parc des Princes and progressed 4-3 on aggregate. Earlier, Sandy Baltimore’s cross had looped in for the opener, before Bayern equalised through Saki Kumagai. Klara Buhl’s deflected shot then took the game to extra-time, but Bachmann’s strike in the 112th minute was enough for PSG to go through, where they will now face rivals Lyon.

Mbappe there to support

After the match, Mbappe was waiting by the changing rooms to offer his praise to the side.

In a video posted on ESPN’s Instagram, the forward can be seen shaking the hands of Marie Antoinette-Katoto, Jordan Huitema and Christine Endler, among others.

The 23-year-old’s appearance came just a day after he scored twice in France’s 5-0 win against South Africa.

Mbappe has now scored 26 goals in 54 games for his country and is also PSG’s top scorer this season, with 26.

Yet, the former European Golden Boy has been linked with a move away from Paris to Real Madrid at the end of the season.

If this video proves anything, however, it’s that Mbappe is clearly still dedicated to PSG for now and is relishing the success of the women’s team.

A record crowd for PSG

On a momentous night for women’s football, a crowd of 27,262 watched the match at the Parc des Prices –– the highest attendance ever for a PSG women’s game.

Elsewhere, in one of the competition’s other quarter-finals, Barcelona thrashed Real Madrid in front of more than 91,000 people –– making it a world-record attendance for a women’s fixture.

What these statistics show is that there is a desire and an appetite to watch women’s football and that the women’s game itself is continuing to grow.

PSG to face familiar opposition

Lyon are the most successful side in the history of the Champions League, having won seven titles.

But PSG are well equipped at facing the French giants and have already played them twice this year –– losing 6-1 in the league but winning 3-0 in the Coupe de France quarter-finals.

PSG were also the team to knock out Lyon from last year’s competition –– ending their five-year dynasty as European champions.

In terms of form, there’s hardly anything separating the teams. PSG’s last defeat came against Lyon back in November, and while Lyon did lose to Juventus in their Champions League quarter-final first leg, they remain undefeated in the league.

It’s almost impossible to predict who the favourite is for this tie and it may take an individual piece of brilliance to decide the contest.
