England will kick-off their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign against Iran on November 21st.

Gareth Southgate's much-fancied side feature in the tournament's second match after Senegal and the Netherlands get things underway in Qatar.

England will be red-hot favourites to win their opener, despite the fact Iran are currently 21st in the world rankings - ahead of Poland, Serbia, Japan and Morocco.

Iran, who will be playing at their sixth World Cup, have never made it out of the group stage and have won just two of their 15 matches down the years.

One of those victories came at the 2018 edition of the tournament against Morocco, although that win is certainly not where they're most fondly remembered for.

Iran's highlight moment from their campaign in Russia came in a group match against Spain, which they lost 1-0 thanks to a goal by Diego Costa.

In stoppage-time of that game, Milad Mohammadi decided to try something out of the ordinary, but it sadly went horribly wrong for the AEK Athens man.

Mohammadi kissed the ball, pointed to the sky and then attempted a somersault throw-in.

The Iranian defender/winger nailed the somersault, but was off balance when he returned to his feet and therefore had to pull out of the acrobatic move at the last minute.

To this day, Mohammadi's epic fail makes us laugh out loud...

Brilliant, just brilliant.

If Mohammadi had pulled it off and produced an acrobatic, Rory Delap-esque throw-in that resulted in an equaliser for Iran, there would have been absolute scenes inside the stadium.

But it's fair to say that his failure was even more entertaining than that possible outcome.

Mohammadi is still part of the Iran national team setup and he featured in eight of their 14 World Cup qualifiers, grabbing his first goal international goal in the 10-0 thumping of Cambodia.
