Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal have dominated sporting headlines ever since their fight was first announced, and new footage has only added to the spectacle.

With their matchup now long behind us, the situation is still continuing to escalate.

From the pre-fight trash talking to the unlawful aftermath, this bout between two of the sport’s most fiery athletes has been nothing short of entertaining.

During the bout on March 5, Covington played on his strengths as one of the best wrestlers on the UFC roster, helping him to victory via unanimous decision in the main event of the evening.

Now, almost a month on from UFC 272, a newly leaked video shows Masvidal grieving his loss to his former friend turned bitter rival.

The leaked footage shows multiple members of Masvidal’s entourage attempting to lift his spirits after his 16th career loss, assuring him that the loss was purely down to Covington’s use of ground game.

The fighter first appears broken as he is consoled by his coach in the locker room.

Another of Gamebred’s coaches tells him: “He outwrestled you, he didn’t beat you. He outwrestled you. You came to fight; he came to wrestle.”

Masvidal cannot be heard for much of the video, but at one point responds to his coaches’ uplifting remarks, saying: “He beat my a**.”

Covington won by a score of 49-46, 50-44 and 50-45 to take an undisputed victory over his former training partner.

This footage comes at a troubling time for Masvidal, who is already at the centre of some negative attention for the way he handled his defeat.

In the past week, Masvidal has been charged with felony battery after allegedly attacking Covington in his hometown of Miami, Florida.

Prior to the bout, Covington had made remarks about Masvidal’s family, which had only caused this fight to become more personal.

Considering the devastating affect that this defeat had on the Florida native, as seen in this released footage, it starts to put into perspective just how much this fight meant to the fighters on both a professional and personal level.

Furthermore, it gives some insight into why the situation quickly escalated in the way it has, and why we surely have not heard the last about it.
