Iga Świątek rounded off a stunning Miami Open campaign by defeating Naomi Osaka in the final to lift her third consecutive WTA 1000 title.

The 20-year-old has taken the tennis calendar by storm this year and her victory in Florida makes her just the fourth woman in history to win the 'Sunshine Double' — the Indian Wells and Miami Open title in the same year.

To round off her dream run, Świątek will ascend into the world number one position on Monday, following the retirement of Ashleigh Barty.

Continuing her dominant streak

The Miami Open final got off to an entertaining start, with both players looking up for the challenge.

Osaka looked back to her best after returning from a recent hiatus, and her almost flawless run throughout the competition hinted at the perfect comeback.

However, Świątek snatched the first set 6-4 and went on to completely dominate after the break.

Four-time Grand Slam winner Osaka lost her rhythm and struggled to get back into the second set, leaving opportunity for Świątek to capitalise and secure another title after a 6-4, 6-0 straight set win.

The Polish star wrapped up her sixth career title in one hour and 17 minutes.

An historic win

Świątek joins tennis greats Stefi Graf, Kim Clijsters, and Victoria Azarenka in winning the rare 'Sunshine Double' feat.

Once the 20-year-old rises to the top of the WTA rankings for the first time in her career on Monday, all four of the listed women will have held world number one status.

Świątek also becomes the first ever woman to win the first three WTA 1000 events of the calendar year. She joins just Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki as the only players to win three consecutive WTA 1000 titles in a single year.

After reaching the semi-final of the Australian Open, she dominated in the Qatar Open, Indian Wells, and the Miami Open — dropping just two sets across the three tournaments.

Świątek continues her impressive 17-game win streak and she will enjoy her run of superb form even more when she finally makes it to world number one next week.
