Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are both set to play in their last World Cup in Qatar.

The legendary duo will be 37 years old and 35 years old respectively when the tournament kicks off in November.

Messi has come closet to winning the trophy before.

The PSG star was brilliant during the 2014 World Cup but his Argentina side narrowly missed out on lifting the trophy as they were beaten in extra-time by Germany in the final.

The closest Ronaldo has come to leading Portugal to glory, meanwhile, was back in 2006 when they finished third.

Given Ronaldo and Messi will be 40 years old and 38 years old respectively when the 2026 World Cup kicks off, it's very likely that the tournament in Qatar will be their last opportunity to become world champions.

But who else is set to play in their last World Cup later this year? The Sun have named the XI that could feature in their last World Cup and it makes a legendary side.

GK: Manuel Neuer (Age when 2022 World Cup starts: 36)

Neuer, 36, helped Germany to the World Cup title in 2014 but will be keen to win it again. Germany are not expected to go all the way later this year, though.

LB: Jordi Alba (Age when 2022 World Cup starts: 33)

Alba was not part of Spain's World Cup winning side in 2010. It's very likely that the Qatar World Cup will be his last chance to lift the trophy.

CB: Jose Fonte (Age when 2022 World Cup starts: 38)

Fonte will be 41 when the 2026 World Cup kicks off. There's very little chance he'll still be playing then.

CB: Pepe (Age when 2022 World Cup starts: 39)

Pepe is just one year shy of his 40th birthday but continues to play at a very high level. He's played 124 times and counting for Portugal.

RB: Dani Alves (Age when 2022 World Cup starts: 39)

It's testament to how good Alves still is that he continues to play for his national side despite being a month away from his 39th birthday. His Brazil side have a great chance of winning it all in Qatar.

CDM: Sergio Busquets (Age when 2022 World Cup starts: 34)

Busquets is Spain's joint third-highest capped player ever, alongside Xavi. He remains a key part of the national side.

CM: Joao Moutinho (Age when 2022 World Cup starts: 36)

Moutinho is Portugal's second-most capped player ever with 144 appearances.

CM: Luka Modric (Age when 2022 World Cup starts: 37)

Modric won the Golden Ball as he helped Croatia to the World Cup final in 2018. It'll be a very tough ask for Croatia to get that far again.

LW: Cristiano Ronaldo (Age when 2022 World Cup starts: 37)

Ronaldo is the greatest goalscorer in international football history, having hit the back of the net 115 times for Portugal.

RW: Lionel Messi (Age when 2022 World Cup starts: 35)

Messi has suffered World Cup final heartbreak before. He's part of a squad that is very capable of winning it all in Qatar.

ST: Luis Suarez (Age when 2022 World Cup starts: 35)

Suarez has showed signs of slowing down recently and is no longer a guaranteed starter for Atletico Madrid. He's scored 68 times for Uruguay.
