Wayne Rooney is one of the greatest players in Manchester United's illustrious history.

The Englishman established himself as a club legend after he signed for the Red Devils in 2004.

He went on to score 253 goals and help the club win 16 trophies before departing in 2017.

The 36-year-old hung up his boots in 2021, meaning there's no chance of him putting on the shirt again.

But there could be another Rooney playing in United's first-team soon, though.

That's because Wayne's son, Kai, is currently on the books at Man United.

The youngster signed for Man United when the Rooney family moved back to England in 2020.

“I’m a proud dad,” Wayne said after Kai signed his contract, per planetfootball. “He’s been working hard, he obviously came over to the States with us to continue with his football.

“He went on trial with Manchester United and he’s impressed the coaches. He signed his forms yesterday so I’m delighted for him.

“He did have other options, other clubs to go to but he decided he wants to sign for Manchester United, so it was his decision and not mine.”

Kai, now 12 years old, posted a video on Sunday afternoon of him scoring a beauty for United's under 12s against fierce rivals Manchester City.

Kai was sent clear on goal and he produced a beautiful left-footed effort that curled into the top corner. Watch the goal below...

Like father, like son. Whether Kai makes it in United's first-team is unknown but he certainly does have potential.

Also currently playing alongside Kai is Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, son of the Portuguese legend.

It appears there are plenty of names to look out for in United's U12s.
