Leeds United target Ryan Kent has moved down the Elland Road outfit's list of summer priorities thanks to Marcelo Bielsa no longer being in charge of the Whites, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Bielsa was sacked by the Yorkshire giants' hierarchy at the back-end of February and swiftly replaced by Jesse Marsch within 24 hours.

What's the latest news involving Kent?

According to Football Insider, Rangers winger Kent is being monitored by Leeds ahead of the reopening of the transfer window.

The report suggests the 25-year-old, whose £18,000-per-week Ibrox contract expires next summer, has remained on the Whites' radar despite the departure of firm admirer Bielsa.

Kent has been tracked by Leeds for a prolonged period of time, with then-Rangers chief Steven Gerrard revealing the Premier League outfit had seen a £10million bid rejected in August 2020.

It is understood that the former Liverpool man's current Gers agreement boasts a £20million release clause, meaning the Scottish Premiership title chasers would be unable to stand in Kent's way if Leeds were to match that figure.

Although Rangers are looking to tie Kent down to a lucrative new contract, Football Insider have claimed the Glasgow giants are facing up to the prospect of selling their prised asset this summer if he opts against putting pen-to-paper.

What has Dean Jones said about Kent?

Jones understands the departed Bielsa was a big fan of Kent and keen to seal his arrival at Elland Road during his time in charge of Leeds.

However, the transfer insider does not believe Kent is viewed as highly by Marsch, Bielsa's successor.

As a result, there are doubts as to whether the winger remains at the top of the Whites' list of targets for the summer.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "Bielsa was really, really keen on it. I'm not so sure that he's still as high up in the plans."

Why has Kent been a long-term Leeds target?

The Old Firm derby may not have gone to plan for Rangers at the weekend, but Kent grabbed an assist within the opening three minutes of the encounter with Celtic as he picked out Aaron Ramsey with a sumptuous centre.

That emphasised his attacking threat and also enabled Kent to take his tally for the season up to 19 goal involvements in 36 outings.

There is no doubting that Kent's Rangers stint has been a success as he has got his hands on the Scottish Premiership title - the first piece of silverware during his career - and racked up 30 goals, along with 44 assists.

Kent was also described as 'sensational' by former Gers boss Gerrard, so it is fair to say he has been a hit north of the border.
