Celtic have given their chances of signing "top players" this summer a huge boost following their Old Firm derby win over the weekend, says transfer insider Pete O'Rourke.

The Bhoys took a massive step towards winning the Scottish Premiership title after beating rivals Rangers 2-1, bringing a spot in the group stage of next season's Champions League closer in sight. And O'Rourke believes that spot could be game-changing for them in the upcoming transfer window.

What do Celtic need to do to qualify for the Champions League?

Ange Postecoglou's men know that if they win the title this season, they will go straight into the group stage of the 2022/23 Champions League as long as this year's winners qualify for the competition through their own domestic league position.

And following their comeback at Ibrox, they have every chance of doing just that. Celtic now have a six-point lead over their rivals with just six games left to play.

All in all, it has been a great season for the Glasgow club who have won an impressive 25 league matches and have also claimed the Scottish League Cup.

From Postecoglou's point of view, the only real disappointment will be how his side crashed out of both the Europa League and Europa Conference League. However, it has allowed Celtic to concentrate on their domestic affairs, while Rangers are still competing in Europe.

What has O'Rourke said about Celtic?

If Celtic manage to clinch that Champions League group stage spot, O'Rourke reckons the club could end up bringing in some top players this summer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the football journalist said: "Champions League nights at Celtic Park will be a huge attraction for a lot of players because it's such a special atmosphere, and I think every player would love to play in the Champions League.

"So if Celtic can win the Scottish title this season and offer players that, it's going to only enhance their chances of signing some top players in the summer."

How important could this summer's transfer window be for Celtic?

Very. The Bhoys have already shown how crucial good recruitment can be in the last two transfer windows.

In January, they brought in the likes of Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda, with the former downing Rangers in the second Old Firm derby of the season, while last summer, they signed another Japanese star in Kyogo Furuhashi.

The 27-year-old was a revelation for Celtic before his hamstring injury, scoring eight goals in 14 league outings.

The arrival of Postecoglou and that kind of recruitment has helped take Celtic close to yet another league title. More of the same in the summer and they could be in for another good season in the 2022/23 campaign.
