Wolverhampton Wanderers face a ‘difficult’ decision over wingers Adama Traore and Francisco Trincao in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Midlands outfit signed Trincao on a season-long deal from Barcelona back in July that includes an option to buy for £25 million before allowing Traore to move in the opposite direction in January.

What is the latest news involving Wolves?

Traore re-joined his boyhood club during the winter on a short-term loan deal, although Barca have the option to make his stay permanent for £29m.

And the Spain international has been in impressive form since swapping Molineux for Camp Nou, providing four assists in 10 appearances for the Blaugrana in all competitions.

However, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has cast doubt over their ability to pay the agreed fee for Traore, with the Catalan giants still facing major financial issues.

“Adama has Barca DNA, he’s one of the best forwards in the world, he’s fast,” Laporta has said. “We’d love Adama Traore to stay here, it’s possible — but we’re in a difficult financial situation. We’ll see at the end of the season.”

But the chief did propose a swap deal involving Trincao as a possible solution to the problem.

“I think a swap deal with Wolves between Francisco Trincao and Adama Traore could be a very good option,” Laporta said. “We're really happy with Adama and his impact, attitude, performances.”

What has O’Rourke said about Wolves?

Traore will only have 12 months remaining on his current Wolves contract in the summer, meaning Wolves will be forced to make a big decision over his future, and O’Rourke reckons the choice will be a tricky one for the club’s hierarchy.

He told GiveMeSport: “It's a difficult one for Wolves. Obviously, they let Traore go to Barcelona with the intention that he would probably sign there on a permanent basis.”

Who would get the best deal?

Trincao has struggled to find his best form since arriving on English shores, registering just two goals and one assist in his 25 appearances for Bruno Lage’s charges.

And while Traore has struggled to produce consistently for Wolves over the last 18 months, his tally of 18 goal contributions in 2019/20 highlighted his true potential.

Therefore, Wolves may lose out slightly if a straight swap deal is proposed, although Traore’s contract situation makes the potential deal more complicated.
