Champions League football is back. Tonight we have a huge quarter-final first leg fixture taking place between Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.

Pep Guardiola’s side will be looking to progress to their third Champions League semi-final in as little as four seasons as they continue their quest for this illustrious cup.

Diego Simeone’s side in contrast will be looking to defeat yet another Manchester club. They knocked out Manchester United in the round of 16 thanks to a well fought out victory at Old Trafford.

This has all the makings to be a Champions League classic. Two tactical masterminds, some ridiculous talent on the pitch and a spot in the semi-final up for grabs. But who will come out on top over the course of the two games?

Here’s everything you need to know regarding Manchester City vs Atletico Madrid.

Team News

Yannick Carrasco of Atletico Madrid in action during the UEFA Champions League.

Pep Guardiola’s side will be without Kyle Walker as he’s still serving his three-game Champions League suspension after his actions against RB Leipzig in the final match of the group stages.

Colossal centre-half Ruben Dias is also still out – he’s had a knock for some time now and doesn’t look likely to return until around mid-April.

Atletico also has a suspended star, in their case, it’s Belgian winger Yannick Carrasco who’s picked up one too many yellows during this campaign.

They also have a centre-half out with Jose Gimenez looking doubtful. Hector Herrera also won’t feature due to a thigh injury.

Potential Manchester City XI: Ederson; Cancelo, Laporte, Stones, Zinchenko; Silva, Rodri, De Bruyne; Mahrez, Foden, Sterling

Potential Atletico Madrid XI: Oblak; Llorente, Savic, Felipe, Reinildo, Lodi; De Paul, Kondogbia, Koke; Felix, Griezmann

Head to Head

These two sides have NEVER met competitively in a match before!

Odds

Here are the odds that are being offered by various bookmakers:

Manchester City: 3/10

Draw: 15/4

Atletico Madrid: 11/1

Prediction: Man City 2-1 Atletico Madrid

Phil Foden of Manchester City celebrates after scoring.

Atletico are a really hard team to face in a knockout competition. Simeone has a way of grinding out results – but not against this Man City side. The sheer footballing excellence this City team displays should be able to overcome any tactics thrown at them.

It’ll be close, but we think City will take the first leg. 2-1.
