Newcastle United are showing serious 'ambition' by eyeing the 'dream signings' of Neymar and Harry Kane in the summer, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Magpies became the richest club in world football after the Saudi Arabia-based Public Investment Fund led a £305million takeover last October, meaning they will head into the upcoming transfer window with a large amount to spend.

What's the latest news involving Neymar and Kane?

According to Spanish sources, Newcastle are one of three clubs planning an audacious swoop for Paris Saint-Germain attacker Neymar.

The report suggests the Ligue 1 giants are willing to offload the £81million-rated star at the end of the season and the Magpies, along with Manchester City and previous employers Barcelona, are mulling over whether to make a move.

Neymar's arrival at St James' Park would be a huge coup, particularly considering we are only five years on from when the 30-year-old became the world's most expensive signing thanks to swapping Barcelona for PSG in a £200million switch.

Meanwhile, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Tottenham Hotspur striker Kane is on Newcastle's radar ahead of the summer.

Kane is also understood to be a leading target for Manchester United as the England captain prepares to enter the final two years of his £200,000-per-week contract with Spurs.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Neymar and Kane?

O'Rourke believes the Newcastle hierarchy could show they mean business by recruiting Neymar and Kane ahead of their first full season at the helm.

The journalist feels even being linked to the attacking duo shows how far the injection of the Public Investment Fund's cash could take the Magpies.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "Obviously, the names of Neymar and Kane would be dream signings for Newcastle and just shows how much ambition they probably have."

What would Neymar and Kane add to Newcastle?

Neymar would give head coach Eddie Howe a big attacking threat drifting in from the wing should he join, with the PSG man scoring close to 270 goals at club level.

The Brazilian, who has enjoyed a trophy-laden career, has transferred his form onto the international stage as well and found the back of the net on 71 occasions - as well as recording a further 52 assists - in 117 appearances for his homeland.

Kane was likened to legend Diego Maradona by former Newcastle star David Ginola last weekend and would also bring goals to St James' Park.

The 28-year-old, who is valued at £90million by Transfermarkt, is currently fifth among the Premier League's all-time top scorers and there is a strong possibility that he will go on to beat Magpies legend Alan Shearer's record of 260 in the competition.
