Liverpool took a huge step towards qualifying for the semi-finals of the 2021/22 Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Jurgen Klopp's side travelled to Benfica for the first leg of their quarter-final tie and came away with a resounding 3-1 win.

Goals from Ibrahima Konate and Sadio Mane in the first half put Liverpool in the driving seat, before Darwin Nunez halved the deficit shortly after the restart.

But Luis Diaz was on hand to restore the Reds' two-goal advantage in the final five minutes of the match with a well-taken goal.

The Colombian international has now scored three times for Liverpool since signing from FC Porto in January and the transfer already looks like a masterstroke.

Diaz has taken no time at all to adjust to life at Liverpool and the fans already adore him.

And it seems the players have taken very kindly to the energetic winger as well.

Why do we say that? Well, because Mane opted to interrupt Diaz's post-match interview in order to give him a big hug.

If you're a Liverpool fan, you just love to see it! A just reward for Diaz after his unselfish assist for Mane's goal that put Liverpool 2-0 ahead on the night.

That pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold wasn't bad either, was it?

Liverpool are in the best possible shape right now ahead of what's going to be a season-defining few weeks for them.

The Reds do battle with Manchester City in both the Premier League and the semi-finals of the FA Cup over the next 10 days or so.

If they can achieve victory in both of those matches and see off Benfica at Anfield next week, the quadruple dream is well and truly on.

With the squad looking the strongest it ever has during Jurgen Klopp's reign following the recent addition of Diaz, you certainly wouldn't bet against Liverpool claiming back-to-back victories over City either.
