Manchester United should not be ruled out of the race to sign Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen despite Tottenham Hotspur being in the running to seal his return to north London, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
Although there is uncertainty as to who will be in the Old Trafford dugout next season, with interim manager Ralf Rangnick due to move into a consultancy role at the end of the current campaign, it appears the Red Devils are already making plans ahead of the summer window opening for business.
What’s the latest news involving Eriksen?
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are set to rival Tottenham for Eriksen’s services ahead of the summer.
The report suggests the Premier League rivals are monitoring his progress closely, with Spurs boss Antonio Conte already stressing his interest, after making an impressive start to life at Brentford.
Although the creative midfielder is valued at £13.5million by Transfermarkt, there is a possibility that suitors could sign Eriksen without having to part with a transfer fee.
That is because he only signed a contract lasting until the end of the season when he joined Brentford on deadline day of the January transfer window.
However, it appears Eriksen is destined to enter talks over extending his stay in west London as Bees boss Thomas Frank has revealed ‘it’s no secret that I want him to continue next season’.

What has Dean Jones said about Eriksen?
Jones understands Manchester United’s interest in Eriksen is serious and feels the Red Devils could beat former employers Tottenham to the 30-year-old’s signature.
With the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata set to leave Old Trafford when their respective contracts expire at the end of the season, the transfer insider believes Manchester United are keen to add reinforcements in the middle of the park.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I think Spurs is the most obvious link that people are making.
“But, from what I’m told, don’t rule out Manchester United completely from this. They are in need of midfield additions in the summer.”
Why is Eriksen of interest?
Eriksen has sensationally returned to competitive football despite collapsing during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland less than 12 months ago.
He has shown he can still cause defences problems over the course of four appearances since being handed a chance to head back onto the pitch by Brentford.
His first Bees goal came in last weekend’s 4-1 victory at Chelsea and his performance led to Match of the Day pundit Micah Richards claiming Eriksen has ‘totally transformed’ his current employers.
The Dane’s switch to west London has allowed him to increase his number of Premier League goals and assists to 120, so it is clear he could make a telling impact at Old Trafford.
Eriksen’s form at the Brentford Community Stadium has also led to a return to international football, with him taking his tally up to 111 caps in goalscoring displays against the Netherlands and Serbia last month.
