Barcelona could break the all-time attendance record for a women’s fixture again, after confirming that tickets for their Champions League semi-final against Wolfsburg are now sold out. On Monday, the Spanish champions revealed the 50,000 tickets that had been made available to members had already been sold and those put on general sale have now been snapped up as well. Last month’s Women’s El Clasico saw 91,553 pack the Nou Camp as Barca thrashed Real Madrid 5-2. And the success of that match has prompted the club to host their home tie against Wolfsburg at the same venue.

Another sell out

In a statement on the Barcelona website, the club said: “Barca Femeni will play again at the Camp Nou on April 22nd in the first leg of the Women's Champions League against Wolfsburg and will once again have the unconditional support of the Barca people.

“In just over 24 hours, tickets that have been made available to members and the general public have been sold out due to the avalanche of demand for this party.”

So great was the demand for the Wolfsburg match, that thousands waited in online queues to buy tickets.

Football journalist, Alex Ibaceta, even shared a photo that showed she was the 12,880th person in the queue for the ‘high demand’ event.

The match against Wolfsburg promises to be another thriller as the Catalonian side seek to win back-to-back Champions League trophies.

Barca will no doubt be favourites for the match, having already wrapped up the domestic league title. However, the German side are also flying high this season and have reached five European finals of their own in the last decade.

Could the record be broken again?

Given the match is a sell-out, there is every chance we could see last month’s record-breaking attendance surpassed.

The El Clasico tie broke the previous record for a women’s football match that was set at the World Cup in 1999, when the USA faced China at the Rose Bowl.

However, Barcelona have clarified that there are still some tickets being reserved by UEFA that may be released for general sale in the days before the game.

Regardless, it promises to be another extraordinary atmosphere at the Nou Camp.

Attendances continuing to grow everywhere

It’s not just in Barcelona where women’s football attendances are growing.

A total of 180,648 fans attended the eight quarter-final matches in the Women’s Champions League and this season’s competition as a whole has amassed an aggregate audience of almost 400,000.

Indeed, PSG’s women broke their own personal attendance record at the Parc des Princes on the same night as the El Clasico –– proving that women’s football as a whole is going from strength to strength.
