Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch would pull off 'a hell of a coup' if Barcelona star Sergino Dest heads to Elland Road instead of Bayern Munich, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Marsch was appointed as the Whites' head coach just 24 hours after Marcelo Bielsa's sacking, but it appears he has already turned his attentions towards potential incomings ahead of the summer window.

What's the latest news involving Dest?

According to TEAMtalk, Dest has worked his way onto Leeds' list of targets after falling down the pecking order at Barcelona.

The report suggests those working behind-the-scenes at Elland Road believe the star, who is valued at £75million by the CIES Football Observatory, would be an excellent addition to Marsch's squad.

Spanish sources have claimed Dest is one of the names - along with Oscar Mingueza, Clement Lenglet and Martin Braithwaite - who Barcelona have considered offering to Leeds in a bid to reduce their price tag for winger Raphinha.

But Bayern Munich could also be a destination for the right-back ahead of next season, with his current employers willing to use Dest as a makeweight in a deal which would take Robert Lewandowski to the Nou Camp.

The 21-year-old still has more than three years remaining on his £64,000-per-week contract at Barcelona.

What has Dean Jones said about Dest?

Jones believes negotiating a deal which would take Dest to Elland Road would show Leeds mean business heading into Marsch's first full season at the helm.

The transfer insider understands that German giants Bayern Munich are admirers of the full-back and keen to take him to the Bundesliga.

As a result, beating the German giants to Dest's signature would demonstrate that Marsch has the full backing of the Leeds hierarchy.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "That would be a hell of a coup if they were to sign Dest ahead of people like Bayern Munich."

Why is Dest of interest to Leeds?

The right-back may still be in the early stages of his career, but he has already won 17 international caps for the United States and got his hands on a host of trophies.

Prior to his £23.8million switch to Barcelona in 2020, Dest had already clinched the Dutch Super Cup and a host of youth titles during his time at Ajax.

Copa del Rey glory has followed at the Nou Camp, where he has shown his versatility by featuring in numerous positions this season.

United States boss Gregg Berhalter has gone as far as to describe Dest as 'unreal', so it is clear that he has plenty of admirers ahead of potentially heading to Leeds.
