Real Madrid went into their Champions League quarter-final tie vs Chelsea looking to get revenge.

Real were dumped out of the competition by the Blues in last season's competition at the semi-final stage.

Los Blancos then watched on as Thomas Tuchel led his side to the Champions League title.

Real would have been hoping that their brilliant striker, Karim Benzema, could deliver a masterclass in the first leg at Stamford Bridge.

The Frenchman was scintillating as Real beat PSG in the last-16. He was at his very best once again in the first half in west London.

The 34-year-old opened the scoring in the 21st minute.

Vinicius Jr found space in behind after playing a one-two with Benzema.

Benzema continued his run and Vinicius picked him out roughly 15 yards out. The lethal striker still had a lot to do but he guided a perfect header into the top corner to give his side the lead.

Benzema then scored another superb header three minutes later.

Luka Modric swung in an inviting ball and Benzema produced another beautiful header past Edouard Mendy.

Benzema is ridiculous. What an incredible player he is.

That was his 10th goal in this season's Champions League. He's achieved that mark in just eight games.

he's now scored 36 goals in just 36 games this season. He's been unplayable this campaign and could win his first Ballon d'Or trophy.

Chelsea got back into the game just before half-time as Kai Havertz scored the third header of the evening.

Jorginho's cross was perfect and Havertz headed past Thibaut Courtois to halve the deficit.

There were no further goals as Real went into half-time with a 2-1 advantage.
