Ricky Evans' rapid checkout of 167 is incredible to watch

Ricky Evans is quite possibly the quickest darts player to ever grace the oche.

Whilst darts players are often known for their poise, Evans throws all of that out of the window in favour of car crash style darts.

His nicknameRapidoffers any new fan an immediate insight into the lighting speeds that he throws his arrows at the board.

But even the most hardcore darts fans was left surprised at how quickly he checked out a 167 at last year’s World Championship.

The 31-year-old hit a treble 20, treble 19 and the bull in true blink and you’ll miss it fashion to clinch the first set.

Former darts player John Part was audible in disbelief on commentary, saying: “Ricky Evans, how fast was that?!”

Well, we have the answer. There was a fraction over three seconds between the first dart nestling in the treble 20 and the final dart piercing the bullseye.

The Kettering-native would go on to win the match against Indian qualifier Nitin Kumar 3-0 with a 96.2 average.

His fast throws weren’t the only talking point amongst fans following the first-round match.

After checking out a 130 in characteristically quick nature, Evans winked at the camera before imitating Cristiano Ronaldo’s Sui celebration.

He was met with a roar of Suiiii! from the 3,000 darts fans inside Alexandra Palace.

The win saw Evans progress to the second round of the World Championship were he faced Daryl Gurney.

Despite taking the first set, he then lost three straight sets to see the Northern Irishman Gurney progress to the third round.

That meant he kept his unwanted record of only ever reaching the last 32 of the World Championship, doing so in 2014, 2016, 2020 and 2021.

This wasn’t the first time that Evans demonstrated his quick hands in the opening round of the World Championship.

Back in 2017 against Michael Smith, he didn’t even give the camera operator enough time to zoom in as he hit a 180 in just 2.16 seconds.
