Remember the Bursaspor fan who went viral in 2019 after footage showed him smoking a cigarette while watching his side against Fenerbahce?Viewers were slightly confused when the TV cameras cut to a fan smoking away while enjoying the match, which was a friendly arranged to raise money for different causes. The fan appeared to be too young to be smoking. We’re not lying when we say he looked about 12 years old. However, there was a humorous twist in the tale, which attracted attention around the world. The game was staged during the international break, with all proceeds going to cancer charities as well as organisations who support children with Down’s syndrome and autism. So it was quite surprising to see the fan openly smoking away in the stands. But that wasn’t just because the game was benefitting causes that tackle cancer. He simply looked too young to be lawfully allowed to smoke.

Twist in the tale

However, it later emerged that the fan was actually a 36-year-old Bursaspor supporter, who just happened to have incredibly youthful looks.

He’s a real-life Benjamin Button.

The man is named Cocuk and he was sat next to his young son.

Talk about a plot twist.

Poor Cocuk, he probably still has to carry his ID around wherever he goes.

But on the other hand, it must be nice getting a kids ticket whenever he goes to the cinema.

Cocuk probably didn't enjoy the viral attention he received. According to the Daily Mail, he was in breach of Turkish smoking regulations that hit people with a £13 fine for smoking in public places.

Charity match

Are we the only ones in thinking more teams should arrange charitable friendlies during international breaks?

The game between Bursaspor and Fenerbahce benefitted various charities and ended in a 2-1 win for Bursaspor.

Why don't more teams get squads together and support charities around the world with friendly matches that could help managers give competitive minutes to some fringe players?

It would also help fans cope with the lack of club football in a small way.
