Frank Warren has confirmed that a replacement fighter has been lined up just in case as the countdown to Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte continues.

In a little over two weeks, Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte will meet in front of over 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium. The two men will battle it out over the WBC and The Ring heavyweight titles with Fury coming into the contest as the defending champion.

Whyte, meanwhile, hasn’t been a big fan of how negotiations have gone thus far, which is why he’s been taking part in an impromptu media blackout in the lead-up to the fight.

Fury has been doing most of the promoting himself and while that’s led to some entertaining moments, not everyone has been overly pleased with the situation.

Frank Warren, the co-promoter of Fury, didn’t hold back when asked about a possible replacement fighter being brought in if Whyte - or Tyson - fail to make it to fight night.

“The truth of the matter is that we cover all bases.”

“Would you not think, for an event of this magnitude, of what we’ve sold, that we would not be covering that scenario?

“Of course we cover that scenario.”

When asked about the difficulties his camp is having with Dillian Whyte, Warren said the following.

“The bottom line of all of it is he signed a contract.

“That contract is full of what his obligations are – and by the way what our obligations are. We’ve fulfilled every one of our obligations. All he keeps doing is going off centre, off course, coming up with other stuff that’s not in the contract.

“All I want [from] Dillian Whyte is what is in the contract. Nothing more, nothing less.”

Chaotic boxing politics

As much as fans will soak up the drama of Whyte possibly no-showing on April 23, it seems unlikely that he’d pull such a move.

This is undoubtedly the biggest bout of his professional career and if he wins, he could set up a unification match with the winner of Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua 2.

The stakes are high, and the stage is set for quite the heavyweight showdown.
