Elden Ring: How to complete Dung Eater questline

Gamers will have to wait until 2022 to play Elden Ring

Elden Ring has a number of quests that aren’t exactly easy to find, including the story path handed out by the Dung Eater.

He is one of the Tarnished mentioned in the opening cinematic, and his questline can reward you with the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse. You’ll also get a new armour set.

That rune cannot be equipped by your character, but it does grant you access to an alternate ending once you beat the final boss.

The next paragraph will include a spoiler for the ending of the game so be aware of that before you read on; if you don’t want to know what the Blessing of Despair ending is, click off the piece!

The Blessing of Despair ending comes about when you have the Mending Rune, and you can choose “Use Mending Rune of the Fell Curse”. It means that the Tarnished chooses to use the rune, and begin the new age as Elden Lord – the Lands Between have now been overtaken by a curse.

How to complete Dung Eater questline

To kick the quest off, you’ll have to find the Dung Eater in the Roundtable Hold.

You won’t get access to his room until you’ve reached the Altus Plateau in storyline.

You’ll have to beat the Magma Wyrm Makar to get this far, so this boss battle is vital to your progression in this questline.

When you’ve reached the Altus Plateau, you can go back to the Roundtable Hold and the Dung Eater can be found in a previously locked room, beyond the Twin Maiden Husks.

He looks like a hostile NPC invader, cloaked in red, so you won’t be able to miss him.

Once you gain access to the room, you can speak to the Dung Eater and he’ll tell you that you’ll need to find the Seedbed Curse.

There are six of these – you’ll need to get five to be able to finish the quest. At this point you only need one.

Seedbed Curse locations

  • You can find the first at Volcano Manor. From the Temple of Eiglay Site of Grace, go towards the hiding spot of Rya’s, and take the elevator down. Go along the path to the right and at the end of the road, there’s a building. Take the door to the right, go up the stairs, use a Stonesword Key to open the fog door, and you’ll find the Curse on a corpse.
  • There’s another Curse in Leyndell, Royal Capital. It’s at the top of the round building to the east of the Catacombs Site of Grace.
  • If you beat Blackguard Big Boggart, he’ll drop a Curse in the outer moat of Leyndell. It’s possible to miss this one, hence you only needing to find five, rather than all six.
  • In the Ashen version of Leyndell, Royal Capital, go into the alternate version of the Roundtable Hold, and then head into the Dung Eater’s room. There’s a curse in there.
  • In the Elphael Brace of the Haligtree, go north, then west from the Prayer Room Site of Grace. There’s a corpse in a chair on a ledge; loot it and get another curse.
  • Again, from the Prayer Room Site of Grace, go north, then head down the stairs that double back on your right. You’ll find a room at the bottom, where you can jump over the railing and drop to the platform. There’s a corpse at the bottom of the stairs, holding a curse.

Once you’ve got the first Seedbed Curse, go back to the Hold and speak to Dung Eater. He’ll give you the Sewer Gaol key.

You can now access the sewers through a well in Leyndell, Royal Capital. Go northwest from the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace, go down the steps and out of the door. Follow the road, jump over the railing, and you’ll see the well among the ruins.

Go down the ladder, take the first door on the left and then go down another ladder. Follow the tunnel. Keep going, ignore the right-hand opening. You’ll eventually find a platform with a ladder on your left. The Underground Roadside Site of Grace is here, which you can activate and rest at.

Go out the door behind you, go northeast along the tunnel. You’ll come to a point where there are three grates. The one on the left has a gap, so drop into it and go through the tunnel.

There are enemies here, so kill them. There’s a ladder at the end, so climb it and you can use the Sewer Gaol Key on the door.

Talk to Dung Eater inside the room and select the option to ‘Leave your gaol’. Go through his dialogue, then return to the Roundtable Hold.

From here, you’ll realise that Dung Eater isn’t in his usual room. There’s a message telling you to go and find him in the Outer Moat, which is just outside Leyndell, Royal Capital.

Once you find him, you’ll have to fight Dung Eater. You need to defeat him and then go back to the Roundtable Hold, so you can talk to him.

You’ll have to take more Seedbed Curses in the cell, where you found him in the Subterranean Shunning-Ground.

You have two options with the Dung Eater’s corpse.

If you have the potion from Seluvis, you can use it on Dung Eater, which will unlock the Dung Eater Puppet summon.

Or you can interact with the body and offer it the Seedbed Curse. Give five over and you’ll be given the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse. You’ll also get the Omen armour set.
