Manchester City and Liverpool clash on Sunday in what is one of the most highly-anticipated Premier League games of all time.

There is just one point separating the two title rivals ahead of their meeting at the Etihad.

Is this the match that decides the 2021/22 Premier League title?

Pep Guardiola certainly thinks so.

"It’s as simple as that," the City boss admitted. "Hopefully Liverpool will lose against us but apart from that I don't think they will drop points. We have to feel this pressure and handle it. We did it in the past. We won 14 games in a row, now we have to win eight games. Otherwise we will not be champions."

Of course, it's not the first time these two sides have done battle for the trophy.

It started four years ago during the 2018/19 campaign.

Liverpool lost just once and picked up 97 points but City claimed the title by a solitary point.

But Jurgen Klopp's side bounced back the following season and won the Premier League at a canter, earning 99 points to City's 81.

City retaliated last season, easing to a title of their own with 86 points. Liverpool, meanwhile, finished third on just 69 points.

But this season is reminiscent of 2018/19 with the two heavyweights slugging it out at the top of the table.

And while there's just one point between City and Liverpool this season, that's reflected in an accumulative Premier League table over the last four seasons.

That's right, over the previous 144 matches in the league since the start of the 2018/19 season, City have picked up just one more point than Liverpool (338 to 337).

Quite incredible.

To put that into context, Chelsea are third - a massive 74 points behind the leaders. Manchester United are fourth, seven points adrift of Chelsea.

The two north London clubs come next with Spurs edging out Arsenal by five points.

The conclusion? City and Liverpool are in a league of their own.

In fact, they might just be the two best sides the Premier League has ever seen. They've achieved the biggest points haul in the league's history and push each other to greatness.

While we're going to stop short of calling the game on Sunday a title-decider, whoever is top of the Premier League - and therefore the table since 2018/19 - will be huge favourites to go on to lift the 2021/22 title.

We can't wait.
